We have just recieved some awesome new ipod shuffles for our listening to reading station and it has been AMAZING!!! The ipods are so easy to use!! We have 3 ipod shuffles for our class of 12 (I know, crazy right.) And we have 3 book boxes for “listening to reading” during our Daily 5. In each book box there are 2 books with the same colored ipod shuffle to match (well pink and red match right?). I only put two books in the box to go along with the ipod audio books. See, on ipod shuffles you can’t see what you’re listening to, there’s no screen. So I only put two audio books so it’s easy to choose what book they want to listen to there’s no blind search.
These ipods have been the HIT of Daily 5 for the past few weeks.
It makes my heart happy to see them so excited for LITERACY!!
Don’t forget about my Oceans Math & Literacy Pack! It has 5 of each activity for work stations or word work! I am giving a FREEBIE from my math content; it’s a graphing your favorite ocean animal page. Hope you like it!
Where are you getting your audio for books? Are they CD's you're transferring or something you're finding online? If you could let me know at teachonalimb@me.com that would be super.
I think I'll use my start of school stipend for shuffles this year. How do your kids do with the headphones? Last year all that I had for the cheap mp3 players that I bought were chewed, yanked and swung around (I had 14 boys and 7 girls)! I think I could wrap the cords up and clip the shuffles to the headphones to eliminate the dangling temptation. iTunes is the only format that you can use to transfer files onto the shuffles, right? I worked all last year getting my files to mp3 format, so I'll have to import them to iTunes now. I would love to hear any suggestions that you have for using the shuffles.
