Is anyone else tired of sheltering in place? I mean, I love love love to read, but even home bodies need to see the aisles of Target every once in a while. Once I finished Netflix (yes, I mean watched everything) then I knew I had to pick up some of these books that were on my #tbr pile. And I’m so glad I did! If you have any great book recommendations please leave me a comment below, I love hearing what others are reading!
The Silent Patient – If you love a good psychological thriller, don’t pass this one up! It is unputdownable!! The ending was one that I did NOT see coming at all! So here’s the shake down… Alicia Berenson, a famous painter, shoots her fashion photographer husband 5 times, killing him and then never utters another word again. Theo Faber, a criminal psychotherapist, has been obsessed with Alicia and her silence for years and he finally works his way onto the staff of at the Grove, a secure forensic unit and then manages to secure the position of Alicia’s psychotherapist. Very little is really the way it seems in this addictive psychological thriller and it had me on the edge of my seat from the first chapter.
Castle of Water – Ok, at first you may think it’s a story you’ve heard before…. Man and woman are stranded on a desert island after a plane crash. (The guy manages to keep his clothes, but the woman washes up to shore in her black bra. …Guess if this story is written by a man or a woman.) They hate each other at first…. but then of course that changes. But there was more to it than that. I loved hearing about how to the couple turns the island into their “home”, how they must turn toward each other for survival and the ending just rocks you. This is a quick beach read… I think you’ll love it!
The Grace Year – What in the… Don’t be fooled by the pretty pink cover, this frightening dystopian novel is not a love story about young love. Every year sixteen year old girls of the colony are sent away into the wilderness for their grace year. This book really got in my head. I found myself very confused at first, then thinking about it all the time… I even wanted to flip to the end to find out what happens. I don’t usually compare books but this one kept reminding me of The Handmaid’s Tale, so if you liked that series then you will likley love this one.
American Dirt – Just read it. I don’t know where to begin with this one. Forced to flee their home in Acapulco after the massacre of their entire family Lydia and her eight year old son, Luca become migrants and begin their journey to the United States. What a journey! They encounter many people some good and some bad while fighting for their lives to be free from the horrible drug cartel that is after them. This one is entertaining and fast paced and will make you think twice about what you know of migrants coming to the United States.
So there you have it, a good mixture of all genres for every reader. I’d love to hear your thoughts if you read these. Be safe!
