It’s review day! I read some EXCELLENT books this month and I can’t wait to share them with you all! This month I planned to read books with pink covers, super cheesy I know, but this pink stack was my inspiration.
It made me reach out to different genres and search books based on the covers BEFORE the content which was interesting. So I read two young-adult, two chick-lit, and one thriller. And I must say; one of these might be in my TOP five of the YEAR! Yes, I loved it that much.
Darling Rose Gold
This book was excellent! I loved the subject matter and I was so involved watching this mother/daughter relationship unravel. Patty, the mother has Munchausen by Proxy and is abusing her daughter for years. Until the daughter, Rose Gold figures it out and sends her to jail. Fast forward 5 years and Rose Gold is picking her mom up from jail… What?! This one is definitely worth reading if you love a fast-paced read, with creepy vibes of betrayal and lies! 5 Stars
The Two Lives of Lydia Bird
I was not expecting to love this book as much as I did. The pink cover fooled me (even though it IS about love) it also is about a heart-wrenching look at grief. I actually connected so much with her, and the journey to find herself and her path again. Lydia and Freddie have been together for more than a decade and she thought their love was indestructible. Until her 28th birthday when Freddie dies in a car accident. She tries to live her life again with the help of her sister Elle and Freddie’s best friend Jonah. She finds herself living two lives; one with Freddie (in her dreams… literally) and one without him (when she’s awake.) I truly LOVED this book and the heartbreaking grief and loss that she endures. 5 stars
The Best Lies
Sooooo this one was about a toxic-teenage friendship between two best friends, Remy and Elise. Remy’s boyfriend Jack, has been shot and killed by Elise and that is how the story begins. It sounds like a great premise and I actually enjoyed the writing; which was dialoge-driven so it was easier to read but it got redundant and somewhat boring. Like… okay we get it, the girls are co-dependant and one of them is bat-shit crazy. I’d love to hear your thoughts if you read this one. It just wasn’t my favorite. 3 stars
People Like Her
This one is a great suspense book all about Instagram and the fame of being an Influencer. Emmy Jackson has built an incredibly popular brand of being a MAMABARE (a mama who bares her soul). Her followers love and adore her. Her husband often gives his perspective and is unsure about her “ways of showing her real-life”. Unfortunately, the fame threatens the safety of her family, including her daughter. I loved the insight of being a “Mom Influencer” and seeing the good, the bad, and the ugly side of it. I will say, there were some parts that really hit closer to home, especially about sharing her family on social media, that truly frightened me. But I do enjoy the way the story was told and how it unraveled. Please be aware of the many triggers that are in this book, miscarriage, abortions, and death in general.
The Idea of You
This one was one of my favorites I’ve read in a LONG TIME! Like, seriously… I actually did a video all about my love for this book. I saved it from my IG stories so I can share it with you here.
