Firefly Lane – I LOVED this book so much! There aren’t many books that move you and stay with you long after the last page… and this was it!!! I picked this up after watching the series on Netflix. I liked the series and quickly realized how much they changed for the “tv drama” that was necessary. Nevertheless, I still enjoyed the show. BUT THIS BOOK! Gosh, y’all! Still a book of friendships that span over the decades, music of each decade, love, friendship, family & grief. 5 stars
The Night Olivia Fell – This is an excellent suspenseful page-turner. It pulls you in immediately with the first scene and the phone call that is every teenage parent’s worse nightmare… “I’m sorry, it’s about your daughter Olivia. There’s been an accident.” When it’s made clear that Olivia will never recover from her comatose state and Abi decides it’s time to pull the plug, the doctors drop a bombshell-Olivia is pregnant. They would like to keep her on life support until the baby is viable to survive without its mother, which gives Abi plenty of time to look into her own investigation of what really happened to her daughter. From there, the narrative shifts from Abi, the single mom to Olivia, the pregnant teenager and the months leading up to the accident. Until the two narratives merge in a masterful way! Whew if you can get past the triggers of “mom-anxiety” I highly recommend this one!
Pretty Little Wife – Hmmm. this was an average suspense/thriller for me. It wasn’t bad, but nothing really stood out and made me love it either. Lila is a lucky lady. She has the perfect marriage. Until she discovers a shocking secret her husband was keeping. What’s a wife to do? 💁🏻♀️ When her husband mysteriously vanishes, suspicious eyes turn toward her. But Lila knows she isn’t responsible for his disappearance…even though she was the last to see him. This one wasn’t my favorite, but it kept me intrigued throughout. The ending was a little too convenient, (in my opinion) but it was a good story regardless. 4 stars
The Perfect Marriage – This one grabbed me instantly! I can’t describe how much I loved this book, and I was not expecting it at all! If you haven’t seen the way this author promoted her book during the pandemic… it is absolutely genius! I’ll link it here if you want to see it. Sarah Morgan is a successful defense attorney, meanwhile her husband, Adam is a struggling writer who is begging for her attention and finally gets the attention he needs so badly elsewhere. 🙅🏻♀️ Until one day the mistress is found brutally murdered and the only suspect is the boyfriend she has been cheating with… Adam Morgan. Now, with mixed-emotions Sarah must take on her hardest case yet, defending her own husband. This one was pretty basic mystery/crime suspense— until the end! You are like WOAH! Read it.
28 Summers – I have a multitude of emotions after reading the final page of this one. Mostly, I’m sad. I wasn’t expecting that from the beautiful cover and classic Hildebrand romance (which it was). She makes you feel like you’re truly in the presence of the gorgeous Nantucket scenery, you can smell the salty breeze, feel the sun on your face and toes in the sand.
Normally I don’t like to read about cheating spouses, especially after the last one 😳 but this one had a different feel to it- so much so that I actually fell in deep love with the main characters of this story. Their journey from 1993-2020 was a beautiful one… their promise to spend 3 blissful days on Labor Day weekend every year no matter. It sounds poetic, but in reality each time they part it’s a heart wrenching pain that jolts them back to reality.
A heed of warning- I wish I hadn’t read the first chapter because you know how the story will end. But it didn’t make me lose interest, I was still drawn into the passionate love affair that made you yearn for their relationship to be more!
I was expecting to read a “feel-good, beach read” but instead I’m still in shock at this incredible tale of forbidden love and life’s journey. 4.5 stars
Dear Child – Gone Girl meets Room in this twisted thriller. This is brilliant, intense, dark, terrifying and absolutely gripping!
13 years after disappearing, leaving a college party, Lena is found. Having killed her captor, she is now safe. Her two children, Hannah and Jonathan, are rescued as well. However, Lena’s story doesn’t add up, and it is clear that she is hiding something. Her children are also keeping deadly secrets. Even though they have physically escaped, they are mentally scarred. I can almost guarantee that once you start this book, you will be so consumed with this little girl’s story and feel all.the.feels. If you were a fan of Room, I highly recommend this one! 4 stars
