This month was a month of BLUE covers. You know I love a good theme, but this one was a total coincidence. I love when that happens, don’t you? Included in this stack is three thrillers and two romance, and there were a few CLEAR winners!
So here we go, let’s start out with the most recent thriller by Riley Sager.
Survive The Night By Riley Sager
I absolutely loved the premise, and the chapters were short and I felt like I was flying through the pages! That’s always a sign of a good book, right?! I actually thought it was a great read; the 90’s setting was kind of fun. Charlie and her complicated past and her weird “movies” in her mind kept me on my toes for the entire book.
My only tiny issue was the ending- although I enjoyed how it ended, some of it seemed really far-fetched and kind of made me roll my eyes (a tiny bit) at the horror and “Scary Movie” parts… you know, the unbelievable parts… but overall it was a great storyline.
I will say, going into it blind is a better way to read it, so you can be entertained and decide for yourself. The other thing I will say is ultimately it was a great read if you’re a thriller fan!
It Happened One Summer
This is definitely on the top of my rom-com list of favorites!
This is a humorous story inspired by Alexis Rose from Schitt’s Creek. The main character is a super endearing, yet a bratty rich girl named Piper who finds herself lost for purpose in her champagne-drinking, party-going, selfie-loving life. Her stepfather has had enough and decides to send her to a small town to rebuild her sense of responsibility and take care of her late father’s bar in Washington. Enter Brenden, a local fisherman, gentleman and widower. He and Piper find a sudden attraction toward each other and once they get past their preconceived notions, friendship (and even love) is inevitable. The way Tessa Bailey uses a “cartoon graphic” for the cover is actually laugh out loud funny because this book is filthy! HAHA So if you appreciate a sexy and steamy love scene then this one is for you!
One By One
Ruth Ware has done it again. I love a good murder mystery and this one was right up my alley. There are 12 main characters so if you’re not paying close attention you may get a little lost.
Like any good Ware novel there are some parts that are super fast- paced and some that are slower (setting up the plot). I figured out the “whodunit” pretty early on but it didn’t detract from how much I enjoyed this one! Here’s the synopsis if you’re interested…
Synopsis:
Erin and Danny are the staff at a fancy, mountain chalet and this week they are hosting co-workers and one ex co-worker, of a very successful new music-related app called Snoop. Four of the Snoop employees and the ex Snoop employee are the shareholders in the company and there is going to be a vote to decide whether to sell the company…shareholders are deeply divided on the issue and it’s going to be up to Liz, the minority shareholder, ex co-worker, to break the impasse. Before there can be a vote, people are murdered or disappear and this all is intertwined with a massive avalanche, stranding the entire group, knowing that there is a murderer in their midst. The story is told from the perspectives of Erin, a member of the chalet staff, and Liz, the co-worker/shareholder, that left Snoop under mysterious circumstances.

Speaking of Schitt’s Creek, this one is set in the Galapagos Island! It has a asimilar feel to The Ex Talk and People We Meet on Vacation. Except not as great as either of those. I really wanted to like it, but it was just ‘eh’ for me. There was sooo much boring details (that didn’t add to the story at all) and the main character Henley, is not very likeable.
Synopsis: Henley and Graeme are co workers and archenemies, even though they ever met in person. Then they are both up for a promotion for their company and get sent on a cruise to the Galpagos Island to work on some new marketing material. So it is an enemies to lovers workplace romance story. If you need a rom-com that is mostly work based on not too much detail in the actual romance, then this one is for you.
The Stranger in the Mirror
Liv Constantine has done it again.I have loved every one of their books! Short, intense chapters and lots of twisty turns that will leave you like 🤯
If you love a good dark mystery/thriller than you NEED this one!
