Let’s get it started!!
I’m so excited to be sharing my reads for this month. I’ve got two five stars, one four star and one three stars.
Hope you guys get some ideas for your next read.
That’s Not My Name was a fascinating story line, it kept me engaged until the very end.
After a horrible accident, teenage girl wakes up bloodied and bruised. A passing officer stops to help her, only to realize she doesn’t know her name or have any memory of the accident and how she got there.
It had a really great “suck you in” feature from the start. The short chapters were also very enticing. I thought I had it figured out, until BOOM, I was wrong! Ha, I love when that happens. I lowered it to 4 stars because I wasn’t quite convinced with the ending.
By Any Other Name | Jodi Picoult
My book club chose this book and it was great for discussion.
By Any Other Name is a dual POV/timeline about Melina Green, a modern day playwright, and her ancestor, Emilia Bassano, an Elizabethan poet. Picolt tackles gender, race and proposes that Shakespeare didn’t write everything he received credit for.
Something I loved about this book was how well written it was, Picoult is a master at well-researched and detailed books. I loved Emilia’s storyline; her life was sad and tragic but the moments she found joy were very powerful.
I didn’t really love the present timeline, Melina. I found myself wanting to skip through her pov to get back to Emilia’s. The other thing I didn’t enjoy was how long it was, over 500 pages didn’t seem necessary.
Overall, it wasn’t my favorite. If you enjoy Picout’s depth in writing or Elizabethan literature you will really love this one.
I really enjoyed this twisty page turner. It was fast paced and addictive. Prepare yourself though, it’s very dark.
Perla, Grant and their 12 year old daughter, Sophia seem to have the perfect suburban life.
Meanwhile, Leewood is serving a life sentence for multiple murders. 23 years later and no one has come to see him… until one day he gets a visitor.
If you like dark thrillers, I highly recommend going in without any more information than that. You will not be disappointed.
The Naturals is a ya mystery/thriller. The plot is so fun!! Teens with special abilities that are recruited by the FBI. It reminded me of Criminal Minds, so if you love that show too you might like this cat and mouse game.
I highly recommend this to any and all mystery readers. At first, I thought the “ya” would be too pg, but Barnes somehow made it totally worth it. I’m excited to read the rest of this series!
